The Power of Compound Interest

Compound Interest

Albert Einstein reportedly called compound interest the "eighth wonder of the world," stating: "He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn't, pays it." While it sounds like complex financial jargon, compound interest is simply the concept of earning interest on your interest.

How It Works

Imagine you invest $10,000 at an annual interest rate of 8%. In the first year, you earn $800. In the second year, you don't just earn 8% on your original $10,000; you earn 8% on $10,800. This snowball effect is what builds massive wealth over decades.

The Importance of Time

The true magic of compounding requires time. A 25-year-old who invests $500 a month until age 65 will accumulate significantly more wealth than a 35-year-old who invests $1,000 a month until age 65, purely because the 25-year-old gave the compound interest a 10-year head start.
